Key Hits Lead Wabash to Third Consecutive Win in Florida

Timely hitting led the Wabash baseball team to its third consecutive victory and its sixth win in Florida. The Little Giants improved to 8-4 on Friday with a 6-4 win over the College of Mount St. Joseph.

Sophomore Bill Goff (Brownsburg, IN/Brownsburg) continued his hitting tear, extending his consecutive game hitting streak to seven with a two-run double that tied the score at 3-3 in the bottom of the fifth inning. Goff came around to score on a groundout by sophomore shortstop Danny Schubert (Lebanon, IL/Lebanon), earning the game-winning RBI and giving the Little Giants a 4-3 lead.

Wabash added two more runs in the sixth inning. Jared Martin (Rosedale, IN/Riverton Parke) reached on an error with one out in the inning. He came around to score one batter later on a double to the right-center field wall by Tyler Nance (Celebration, IN/Celebration). Nance added the final run on a fielder’s choice by senior Jake Martin (Rushville, IN/Rushville) (photo).

Martin threw 5-2/3 innings as the starter, scattering eight hits while striking out nine. Fellow senior Marc Rowe (West Point, IN/McCutcheon) threw the final 1-1/3 innings to notch his third save of the year.

Nance was the only Little Giant player to have multiple hits in the contest. The sophomore outfielder finished the day 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored. Jake Martin, Schubert, and freshman Jared Bogan (Struthers, OH/Struthers) each added and RBI, in addition to Goff’s two-run double.

The Little Giants finish their Florida campaign on Sunday morning with a doubleheader against Clarkson University. The first pitch is slated for 9 a.m.
