Little Giants Shatter School DMR Record

The Wabash quartet of Hugh Jackson, Wes Chamblee, Garret Bonk, and Kevin McCarthy smashed the school record in the distance medley relay Saturday afternoon, winning the event at the DePauw Indoor Track and Field Invitational. The Little Giant squad finished fourth at the event with 17 top-ten performances.

The previous record of 10.31.11 in the DMR, a relay race made up of 1200-meter, 400-meter, 800-meter, and 1600-meter legs, was beaten by more than six seconds by the Wabash team. The foursome crossed the finish line in 10:24.33, more than 30 seconds faster than any other team in the race.

McCarthy added a third place individually in the 800, finishing with a time of 1:59.48 to break the two-minute mark for the first time this year. Jackson was fifth in the 3000-meter run with his fastest time of the season at 8:53.75. Freshman Donovan White took sixth place (9:03.18), while fellow rookie Colin Dunlap was ninth (9:08.50).

The 800-meter relay team of Emmanuel Aouad, Mike Russell, Andre Adeyemi, and Jake Zielinski took second place after running a season-best time of 1:33.42.

Aouad was also third in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 7.90, and took fifth in the long jump with a mark of 6.38 meters (20 feet, 11-1/4 inches). Micah Milliman kept both trends of top-three finishes and season-best times in play by finishing third in the 5000-meter run while trimming 38 seconds off his best effort this year, finishing in 15:45.01. Justin Allen was seventh in the 5000 (15:59.38).

Spencer Sheridan finished third in seldom-run 600-meter race with a time of 1:25.74. Lemi Laki took seventh place after crossing the finish line in 1:27.83. Alex Moseman took third place in the weight throw with his best mark of the year at 15.03 meters (49 feet, 3-3/4 inchest). Zielinski and Adeyemi added two more top-ten finishes to the Wabash totals in the 400. Zielinski was sixth (53.20), while Adeyemi took tenth (54.39).

Matt Scheller and Kyle Edwards were fourth and sixth, respectively in the shot put. Scheller's mark was 13.41 meters (44 feet), while Edwards finished with a top distance of 12.85 meters (42 feet, 2 inches). Sam Glowinski added a ninth place finish in the pole vault (3.30 meters; 10 feet, 10 inches). Russell was tenth in the 55-meter dash (6.80).

The Wabash 1600-meter relay team closed out the meet with a third-place finishing time of 3:31.34.

The Little Giants scored a total of 80 points in the meet, trailing Vincennes (213 points), DePauw (84), and Birmingham-Southern (81).

Wabash will compete Saturday, February 28 at the Fred Wilt Invitational at Anderson University.
