Wabash rallied for an 11-7 win over Huntingdon College Saturday evening after falling 8-2 in its opener to Birmingham-Southern.
The Little Giants took a 1-0 lead in the second inning of the nightcap when freshman John Holm blasted his first career home run. Holm brought another run home in the third to put Wabash in front 3-1 before adding another three in the fourth, capped by an RBI single by Tanner Coggins for a 6-1 lead. Huntingdon scored a run in the fifth and four in the sixth to even the score.
Wabash scored five runs in the eighth, including a base-clearing shot by Holm that was mishandled by the Huntingdon centerfielder to bring home three runs on the error. Keegan Leckrone picked up the win, pitching the final two innings in relief. Andy Weeks saw a solid start go unrewarded, surrendering two hits and one earned run while striking out seven in five innings of work.
The Little Giants got a similar effort from senior starter Mike Korfhagen in game one against Birmingham-Southern. Korfhagen threw four innings with four hits, two earned runs and five strikeouts. Wabash got homers from Joe Johnson and Coggins, but could only watch as the Panthers scored five in the fifth to take the win.
Brian Lares and Jake Thomas each pounded out five hits in the two games. Holm had five RBIs for the day with four hits.
Wabash (1-1) will conclude its southern trip with a single game against Birmingham-Southern Sunday afternoon.
