Records Fall in Swimming Season Finale

Little Giant swimmers hit the pool for the final time this season Sunday afternoon, competing at the BoilerMakeIt Last Chance Meet in an effort to trim some time off NCAA Division III Championship qualifying times. The results produced four new school records.

Jordon Blackwell, Blaine Cooper-Surma, Chris Kermin, and Craig Vetor posted a new top time in the 400-yard freestyle relay, turning in a time of 3:05.24. Blackwell also broke his own school record swimming the lead laps for the relay team, turning in a time of 45.84 for the first 100 yards of the race.

Vetor improved his own school record in the 200 freestyle, finishing in 1:41.24 in the preliminaries. Evan Rhinesmith also broke his school-best effort in the 100 breaststroke by touching the wall in 57.43.

"The guys really worked hard coming off a tremendous conference meet two weeks ago," head coach John Weitz said. "Their effort was tremendous. Unfortunately, despite the great times we turned in Sunday, it appears they will not be fast enough to earn a place at the championship meet."
