Wabash Picked Fourth in 2009 Baseball Coaches Poll

Wabash received 61 total points and a fourth-place spot in the 2009 North Coast Athletic Conference Baseball Poll, as voted by the league coaches.

The Little Giants were selected behind first-place Wooster (90 points, nine first-place votes), Ohio Wesleyan (77 points) and Denison (72 points). Kenyon (52 points), Wittenberg (46), and Allegheny (39) were fifth through seventh. Hiram (21) and Oberlin (21) tied for eighth with Earlham (16) finishing tenth.

Wabash was 20-19 last season with a 9-7 record in the Western Division of the NCAC, finishing third in the divisional standings and tied for fifth overall. The fifth-place finish equaled the best finish for the Little Giants in the final NCAC standings (tie for fifth in 2003) since joining the league for the 2000 baseball season.

The Little Giants are 1-1 this year after splitting a pair of games Saturday in Birmingham, Alabama. Wabash lost 8-2 to Birmingham-Southern before handing Huntingdon College an 11-7 loss in the nightcap. The Little Giants depart Friday afternoon for a nine-game Texas spring break trip that starts Saturday evening in San Antonio with a nine-inning contest against DeSales College.
