Four Wabash runners earned spots in the Saturday finals of the 2009 North Coast Athletic Conference Men's Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Junior Emmanuel Aouad and senior Wade Heiny both earned a spot in the finals of the 55-meter hurdles. Aouad won his heat with a time of 7.84 to give him an opportunity to win his third consecutive indoor conference title. Heiny posted the fourth-quickest time in the event, crossing the finish line in 7.97.
Wes Chamblee turned in the second-quickest time in the preliminary round of the 400-meter dash. The sophomore finished the race in 50.62 seconds, 3/10ths of a second behind Preston Osborn from Ohio Wesleyan. Freshman Kevin McCarthy earned a spot in the finals of the 800-meter run after finishing with a time of 1:56.55.
The Little Giants scored their first team points of the meet behind the top-six finishes of their two shot put participants. Matt Scheller took fifth place in the shot put with a finals mark of 14.09 meters (46 feet, 2-3/4 inches). Teammate Kyle Edwards grabbed sixth place with a distance of 13.46 meters (44 feet, 2 inches).
Wabash is in seventh place with most of the championship events scheduled to take place Saturday at Denison University. The Little Giants scored seven points in Friday's competition. Allegheny leads the team scoring with 36 points, followed by Ohio Wesleyan (24) in second place. Earlham (16) is third, while Denison, Wooster, and Wittenberg are tied for fourth after each scored eight points Friday night. Kenyon and Oberlin are tied for eighth place with five points.
