Sophomore Wes Chamblee took the high jump title at Saturday’s North Coast Athletic Conference Men’s Indoor Track and Field Championships. Chamblee added a second All-Conference performance with a third-place finish in the 400-meter dash. Wabash finished fifth in the overall team standings.
Chamblee cleared 1.92 meters (6 feet, 3-1/2 inches) to claim the top spot, finishing ahead of Ohio Wesleyan’s David Burke (1.89 meters; 6 feet, 2-1/4 inches). Chamblee finished in 50.50 in the 400, trailing only Michael Barnes from Denison (50.23) and Taylor Throckmorton from Allegheny (50.31).
Four other Little Giants also received All-NCAC honors by finishing in the top-three in their events. Junior Emmanuel Aouad earned a spot on the All-NCAC team in the 55-meter hurdles for the third consecutive year. The two-time defending champion in the event finished second with a time of 7.72, his best time of the season. Senior Wade Heiny and Andrew Bloom from Ohio Wesleyan crossed the finish line shoulder to shoulder, so close that neither could be declared the sole third-place finisher. Both were awarded a share of third place and a spot on the All-NCAC team with a time of 7.83, markng the first time Heiny had posted a time this year below eight seconds in the 55-meter hurdles.
Freshman Kevin McCarthy grabbed third place in the 800-meter run with a finals time of 1:57.79.
Wabash scored 61.5 points to take fifth place in the team results. Ohio Wesleyan won the team title with 148.5 points. Allegheny was second (137), while Denison (73) and Oberlin (73) tied for third. Wittenberg (56), Wooster (31), Kenyon (23), and Earlham (21) completed the team scoring.
