Wabash College Biology Department will present Thomas Cole Biology Lecture Series given by Francisco J. Ayala. Ayala will give his talk on "Darwin's Gift to Science and Religion" at 8 p.m., Thursday, March 19, in Ball Theater in the Fine Arts Center.
Ayala is professor of biological sciences, ecology and evolutionary biology and professor of philosophy, professor of logic and the philosophy of science at the University of California, Irvine. Ayala is a former Dominican priest and is a renowned expert on intersection of faith and science. He studies theology at the Pontifical Faculty of St. Esteban in Salamanca before coming to the U.S. to study at Columbia University. He served as the president of the American Academy for the Advancement of Science and has received numerous awards including the national Medal of Science.
In addition to his Thursday evening lecture, Ayala will give a 4 p.m. talk on Thursday, March 19, on "The Origin and Evolution of Malaria." The talk will take place in Hays Hall, room 319.
Both lectures are free and open to the public.
