Horrey Ties Singles Record In Wabash Win over Rose

Senior Jay Horrey earned his 63rd career singles victory with a straight sets win at home Wednesday night as part of a 6-3 win by Wabash over Rose-Hulman.

Horrey (right) defeated Scott Grubbs 6-1, 6-3 to equal the mark of 63 career wins set by Mark Ratner '00. Ratner finished his four-year career with an overall record of 63-33 as a singles player. Horrey stands at 63-34 through this point of his career. Horrey remained tie for the all-time doubles victories mark of 58 after suffering an 8-4 loss along with partner Sean Clerget at number doubles.

Clerget scored a three-set win at number six singles, defeating Brent Frizzell 5-7, 6-2, 10-2. Zach Lowry added a 6-4, 6-0 win at number three singles, while Peter Gunderman picked up a straight sets 7-5, 6-2 win in fourth singles flight.

Ricky Ritter joined Gunderman for an 8-2 victory at number two doubles. Evan Bayless and Lowry scored an 8-6 win at number three doubles for the Little Giants, as well.

The win snapped a seven-match losing streak for Wabash that saw the Little Giants face some of the top teams in the nation, including regionally- and nationally-ranked programs during their five-match spring break trip to Orlando, Florida last week. The Little Giants return to action Saturday with two matches in Delaware, Ohio. Wabash will open with a North Coast Athletic Conference clash against Ohio Wesleyan University before playing Capital University in the afternoon.
