Senior Jay Horrey became the all-time leader in victories for the Wabash tennis program with two singles and two doubles wins Saturday in Ohio. The Little Giants came away with a pair of 8-1 wins, defeating Ohio Wesleyan and Capital in Delaware.
Horrey (right) became the career leader in singles victories by posting a 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 win against Ohio Wesleyan's Kevin Kahn. Horrey broke Mark Ratner's previous career-best record of 63 wins set from 1996-2000. Horrey added a straight-sets 6-1, 6-3 win against Max Hoff from Capital to pick up his 65 career singles victory.
Horrey and Sean Clerget defeated OWU's Scott Hellberg and Kahn 8-6 to give Horrey his 59th career doubles victory. The win moved Horrey past Dan Altman, who recorded 58 doubles wins from 1998-2002.
Wabash scored two more doubles wins over Ohio Wesleyan. Peter Gunderman and Ricky Ritter picked up an 8-5 win at number two doubles, while Evan Bayless and Zach Lowry won 8-4 at number three doubles.
Ritter earned a 7-5, 6-3 victory against Daniel Thangarajah at number two singles. Gunderman, Ian Sequeira, and Clerget also scored singles victories for the Little Giants' second North Coast Athletic Conference win of the season.
Lowry, Gunderman, Sequeira, and Clerget joined Horrey as singles flight winners against Capital on the way to the 8-1 victory. Wabash swept the doubles flights with wins by the teams of Gunderman and Ritter, and Bayless and Lowry.
Wabash moves to 7-9 on the season as 2-1 against NCAC foes. The Little Giants will serve as host for the annual Kerry Seward Memorial Tournament Saturday and Sunday, March 28-29.
