Dodaro Named NCAC Baseball Player of the Week

Wabash senior Matt Dodaro has been named the North Coast Athletic Conference Baseball Player of the Week.

The Lake Central High School product hit his 21st career home run Saturday in the Little Giants' 8-7 win over Wittenberg, moving him into a tie for the all-time lead in Wabash College baseball history. He also hit his third double of the season, giving 35 for his career to move into a tie for third in that category five away from tying the record.

Dodaro (left) went 6-for-11 at the plate in four games for the Little Giants for a .545 batting average. He collected 14 total bases in 11 at-bats for a 1.273 slugging percentage, including a home run against Kenyon on Wednesday in addition to his homer at Wittenberg Saturday afternoon. He also posted a .688 on-base percentage with three walks and one hit-by-pitch. Dodaro was also 3-for-4 in stolen bases, and made 11 assists and seven putouts without an error in the field at his shortstop position.

Dodaro is three hits shy of the Wabash all-time hits record. He already owns the school's total base (270) and assists (366) records, along with four single season records for total bases (98 in 2007), assists (134 in 2007), and games played and started (40 in 2007). He has started all 133 games on the Wabash schedule during his career as the Little Giants' shortstop.

Wabash will play arch-rival DePauw University Wednesday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. at Mud Hollow Field. The Little Giants have added a single nine-inning game Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m. at Purdue University --- the first meeting between the two schools since 1984. Wabash plays host to Robert Morris-Springfield Saturday afternoon for two games before closing the week with a doubleheader against St. Xavier College in Chicago Sunday afternoon at Mud Hollow.
