Tough Saturday on the Courts For Wabash Tennis

A tiebreaker at number two doubles proved to be the difference-maker in a 5-4 loss by Wabash to Wittenberg Saturday afternoon at the Collett Tennis Center. The Little Giants followed the North Coast Athletic Conference western division loss with a 5-0 defeat against Calvin. The two losses drop Wabash to 7-11 and 2-1 in the NCAC West.

Ricky Ritter (right) and Peter Gunderman were tied with Wittenberg's second doubles team of Stephane Antwi and Derek de Rie at 8-8, forcing a tiebreaker. The Witt duo defeated Ritter and Gunderman 7-3 in the extra game to claim a 9-8 win and the team point for the Tigers.

Jay Horrey and Sean Clerget won at number one doubles 8-5 against Brad Seymour and Craig Lods. Horrey went three sets against Seymour at number one single before taking a 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory. Zach Lowry scored a 6-2, 6-3 win over Antwi at number three singles. Gunderman knocked off Andy Lamb 6-4, 6-0 at number four singles.

Wabash was unable to pick up a point against Calvin, ranked 11th in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division III Central Region tennis rankings.

The Little Giants will serve as host for this weekend's Great Lakes Colleges Association Men's Tennis Tournament. Action begins Friday morning.
