Wabash Pick Up Lone Win at UC-Clermont

The Little Giants played long ball Monday night against UC-Clermont, hitting three home runs in the 11-10 win by Wabash. Game two between the two squads was halted with Wabash taking a 15-14 lead in the seventh inning.

PJ Tyson started the scoring for the Little Giants when he ripped a pitch over the left field fence as the leadoff hitter in the contest for his third homer of the season. The Cougars responded with two runs against starter Logan Frederick.

Wabash answered with a six-run second inning, capped by Matt Dodaro's three-run homer. The senior shortstop hit his sixth of the season after a two-run triple by Grant McCloskey scored Tanner Coggins and Brian Lares after the two opened the inning with back-to-back singles. Tyson's sacrifice fly scored McCloskey before Nathan Schrader and Jake Thomas preceeded Dodaro's homer with two singles. McCloskey came through with a sacrifice fly in the third inning to score Lares after a leadoff double to make it a 8-2 contest.

Schrader joined the home run parade in the fourth when he hit his first career homer near the same spot as Tyson to push the lead to 9-2. UC-Clermont score a run in the fourth, but Wabash picked up an insurance run in the sixth when David Seibel's ground ball brought Schrader home for a 10-2 game.

The Cougars exploded for six runs off reliever Jeff Soller in the sixth to trim the Wabash lead to one run. Lares opened the seventh with a walk, then came around to score what would prove to be the game-winning run on a one-out single by Tyson.

Keegan Leckrone earned his third save of the season, allowing one run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly before closing the door on the Cougars. Frederick earned his first win of the season, working five innings of eight-hit baseball with three earned runs, six walks, and four strikeouts.

No date has been set as of this time to continue play in game two. The Little Giants erased a ten-run deficit before the game was halted by West Chester park officials after Wabash had rallied to take a one-run lead.

Wabash (21-16) will play a doubleheader at DePauw University Wednesday at 3 p.m.
