Tennis Team Earns Season-Ending Ranking

The Wabash tennis team finished the season ranked 21st in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's final Central Region rankings, marking the second consecutive season the Little Giant program has earned regional honors.

Wabash finished third at the 2009 North Coast Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Tournament, the highest finish for any Little Giant team since the school joined the league in 1999. The Little Giants finished the season with a regional record of 10-11 after opening the season ranked 19th. Five of the team's losses came against highly-ranked teams in both the Central Region and national polls produced by the ITA.

"It is a nice honor to be recognized by the ITA Central Region ranking committee for our strong finish in the NCAC," head tennis coach Jason Hutchison said. "The guys really came together when it mattered most and that is what helped earn our highest finish ever in the conference.  We have a solid incoming freshman class and are returning four starters next season. Our hope is to continue to stay in the regional rankings and finish in the top-three in the NCAC once again."

Recent graduate Jay Horrey capped his record-setting career by being ranked 22nd in singles play in the region. He left Wabash as the school's all-time leader in singles victories with a record of 73-37. He also posted 67 doubles victories to set the Wabash all-time record, as well.
