Andrew's Early Answer Not Enough in 4-2 Soccer Loss to Rose

Sophomore Dylan Andrew erased an early goal by Rose-Hulman Wednesday night. Austin Jennings added a second goal, but the Little Giants could not get past the Fightin' Engineers on the soccer pitch in a 4-2 loss to Rose at Mud Hollow Field.
Rose took the opening kickoff and worked its way to the left side of the Wabash goal before Mitch Buffington turned and drilled a shot into the back of the net just 23 seconds into the match to give Rose a 1-0 lead. Ten minutes later Andrew tied the match by taking a loose ball rebound in front of the net and pounding it home for his third goal of the season.
The Fightin' Engineers had an answer in the 27th minute. Tim Hollingshead made it a 2-1 lead on a blast the eluded Little Giant goalkeeper Pat West. Eight minutes later Hollingshead hit a shot that appeared headed for the post, but found its way into the net with a right-hand curve for a 3-1 lead.
Jennings drew Wabash closer with his first goal of the season in the 39th minute off a pass from freshman Ryan Fier, but a second goal for Buffington in the final period gave Rose the two-goal victory.
West faced a barrage of shots throughout the contest, recording seven saves in the match. Wabash posted 20 total shots, putting five on net with two goals and three saves for visiting goalie Andy Cheung.
Both teams evened the season records. Wabash falls to 2-2 while Rose moved to
2-2-1.
The Little Giants return to action Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. at Mud Hollow Field against the University of Chicago.
