First Half Goal Sends Wabash to 1-0 Loss

Despite a solid offensive attack in the second half, the Wabash soccer team could not find a way to score in Saturday’s 1-0 home loss to the University of Chicago.

The Little Giants managed only one shot on goal when Christian Krenk delivered an attempt in the 84th minute that was turned aside by Chicago goalkeeper Chris Giusto. (View photos from Drew Casey ’12 here.)
Neither team could muster many shot attempts against some very stingy defense. Wabash finished with six tries, while Chicago had eight total shots. The Maroons put only two shots on net, scoring the game-winning goal in the 41st minute when Ryan Fitzgerald collected a pass from Kenzo Manners before slipping a shot past Wabash goalkeeper Pat West.
“It seems like most of the teams on our schedule to this point we have proven we can play against,” head coach Roberto Giannini said. “We just cannot seem to find a way to put the ball in the net lately. We moved the ball around well today the entire second half. We certainly had some opportunities. We have to turn those opportunities into goals.”
Wabash (2-3) returns to action Wednesday evening at home at 5:30 p.m. against arch-rival DePauw.
