8 p.m., Theater presents The Bacchae, Ball Theater, Fine Arts Center (Free; but tickets are required; call 361-6411 for reservations) Also presented on Oct. 8, 9, and 10.

 

Family Day at Wabash College

1 p.m., Football vs. Washington, Hollett Little Giant Stadium (Tickets $5 adults, $3 students)

8 pm: Family Day Concert featuring Wamidan, Brass, Woodwind, Jazz Band, and Glee Club. Salter Concert Hall, Fine Arts Center. (Free and open to the public; no ticket required)

Midsemester Break at Wabash (Oct. 15-18)

4:15 p.m., Humanities Colloquium, Center Hall, room 216. Wabash faculty in the humanities present their current research and creative projects to the Wabash community. (Free and open to the public)

 

8 p.m., Author Kirk Nesset Talk, Center Hall, room 216. (Free and open to the public). A book signing will be available after his talk.

 

8 p.m., Visiting Artists Series presents Muntu Dance Theatre of Chicago, Ball Theater, Fine Arts Center (Free; but tickets are required; call 361-6411 for reservations)

The Chicago-based Muntu Dance Theatre performs authentic and progressive interpretations of contemporary and ancient African and African-American dance, music, and folklore.

 

12 p.m., Soccer vs. Ohio Wesleyan, Mud Hollow Field (Free and open to the public)

 

2 p.m., JV Football vs. Valparaiso, Hollett Little Giant Stadium (Free and open to the public)

8 p.m., Faculty Recital by Alfred Abel, violin and Cheryl Everett, piano, Salter Concert Hall, Fine Arts Center (Free and open to the public; no ticket required)

 

5-7:30 p.m., Opening reception for Art Exhibit: Lamidi O. Fakeye: Africa’s Master Carver, Eric Dean Gallery, Fine Arts Center (free and open to the public).

Internationally recognized as one of Africa’s greatest artists of modern times, Lamidi Fakeye’s success is due largely to his keen ability to transcend competing identities. (The exhibit continues through December 11)

 

9 p.m., Classics Lecture by Andrew Stewart, Baxter Hall, room 101. Andrew Stewart from UC Berkeley will give a lecture entitled: “Designing Women: The Hetaira as Model from Phintias to Praxiteles.” A reception will follow. (Free and open to the public)

 

7 p.m., Religion Department Lecture by Robert Millett, Center Hall, room 216.Millett is Professor of Religion at Brigham Young University and one of the leading theologians of the Mormon Church (Latter Day Saints). He is one of the most prolific and accomplished Mormon scholars. (Free and open to the public)

 

8 p.m., Conservative Union Speaker: Joseph Phillips, Baxter Hall, room 101. The Wabash Conservative Union will host actor, author, and political commentator Joseph Phillips. Phillips will give a lecture entitled, “He Talk Like a White Boy: Reflections on Faith, Family, Politics and Authenticity.” Phillips is perhaps best known for his role as Lt. Martin Kendall on the hit series The Cosby Show. (Free and open to the public)

 

7 p.m., Swimming Meet with Kalamazoo, Natatorium, Allen Athletics and Recreation Center (Free and open to the public)
