Junior return specialist and wide receiver Wes Chamblee has been honored by two organizations as a recipient of their weekly awards. The South Bend native was named the North Coast Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week in addition to being selected to the D3football.com Team of the Week, presented by Scoutware.
Chamblee was recognized for his efforts in the Little Giants' 37-3 win at Allegheny Saturday. He scored the first points of the game with a dazzling 86-yard punt return for a touchdown in the first quarter, then added a career-best nine receptions on offense. He finished with nine catches for a team-high 153 yards. Chamblee posted 272 all-purpose yards in the victory, the fifth-best single game performance by a Wabash football player.
Chamblee ranks second in the nation in punt returns with an average of 23.50 yards per return. He is tied for 14th among Division III players in all-purpose yards with an average of 173.0 yards per game.
Wabash (4-0) plays Washington University - St. Louis Saturday at Hollett Little Giant Stadium at 1 p.m.
