Grapplers Take Three at Lakeland Duals

 Wabash opened the 2009-2010 wrestling season Saturday with three victories at the Lakeland Duals in Sheboygan, Wisconsin.

The Little Giants opened with a 24-13 win over the Milwaukee School of Engineering before falling 36-6 to Morehead. Wabash rebounded with a dominating 46-3 win over Wisconsin-Eau Claire before scoring a 25-16 victory over the host school in the final round.

Senior Rob Arnett earned his first win of the season with a 4-0 victory at 285 pounds in the first round against MSOE. Oscar Trujillo won easily at 133 pounds with a 16-3 final against LaMichael Joseph. Jake Strausbaugh picked up a 10- win at 141 pounds for the Little Giants.

Jake Moore added a 14-8 win at 157 pounds, while Bryan Hugo picked up a 3-1 win at 165 pounds against Bryce Howard. Robert Beeler continued the Wabash win streak with an 11-6 victory at 174 pounds. 

Arnett and Michael Burke scored the only wins for the Little Giants against Morehead. Arnett defeated Nick Nadeau 7-1 at 285 pounds. Burke took a 5-4 win over Nathan Schmitz at 197 pounds. 

Wabash rallied for a victory at 141 pounds against Lakeland when Strausbaugh pinned Cody Gust 1:37 into their 141-pound bout. Garrett Payne followed with a 13-3 major victory over Nate Campbell. Beeler added a 10-4 win at 174 pounds just ahead of a 13-5 win by sophomore Greg Rhoads at 184 pounds. Burke pinned Rob Forgette in their 197-pound bout before Arnett scored his third victory of the day with a pin against Brad LeClair in the closing moments of their heavyweight match (5:55). 

No individual results were available from the Wisconsin-Eau Claire match.

The Little Giants (3-1) return to action Tuesday night with a home match at Chadwick Court against Calumet College of St. Joseph at 6:30 p.m.
