Eric Vaughn won the 100 backstroke and David Birrer took the top spot in the 200 butterfly Wednesday night in the Little Giants' dual meet at DePauw University. Wabash lost 200-100 to the Tigers.
Vaughn took first place in the 100 back with a time of 54.54, while teammate Nick Rockefeller scored a fourth-place finish with a time of 56.36. Vaughn also scored a second-place finish in the 200 backstroke (1:59.94).
Birrer was one of three Wabash swimmers to finish in the top-four in the 200 fly. His winning time of 1:58.10 was followed by Logan Falley's third-place finish with a time of 2:03.14. Adam Current took fourth place (2:04.36). Birrer added a second in the 100 fly (53.29), while Current was third (53.35).
Falley grabbed second place in the 1000 free, finishing in 10:29.00. Chad Woods was third (10:31.25), while Elijah Sanders finished fourth (10:32.67). Falley was also third in the 500 free (5:01.17), with Woods grabbing fourth place (5:03.83).
Wabash posted seven more second-place finishes. The quartet of Robert Fozkos, Evan Rhinesmith, Birrer, and Craig Vetor took second in the opening relay, the 200 medley, with a time of 1:37.42. Rhinesmith picked up individual second-place finishes in the 100 breaststroke (59.65) and the 200 breaststroke (2:14.45). Paul Buescher finished third in the 200 breast (2:20.29). Fozkos added a second in the 50 free (22.39).
Vetor took second place in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:02.70, while Rhinesmith was fourth (2:05.47). Vetor was also second in the 100 free (48.00) and third in the 200 free (1:47.18).
Korrey Short took second on the one-meter diving board, scoring a total of 249.85 points. Fellow diver Jake Schild was third (181.10). Short and Schild finished third and fourth, respectively, on the three-meter diving board. Short scored a total of 188.40 points, while Schild picked up 162.35 points.
The Wabash foursome of Chris Kermin, Alex Beck, Rockefeller, and Fozkos finished the evening with a third-place finish in the 400 free relay (3:19.71).
The Little Giants are off until next weekend when Wabash serves as host of the Patrick Woehnker Invitational November 20-21 at the Class of 1950 Natatorium.
