McCarthy Headed To Nationals

Sophomore Kevin McCarthy will represent Wabash College at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Nationals after finishing sixth at Saturday' Great Lakes Regional Championship at the Laverne Gibson Course in Terre Haute, Indiana.

McCarthy earned his first trip to the national championship event by posting a time of 25:57..85, finishing less than 13 seconds behind regional champion Nick Kramer from Calvin College (25:45.65).

Junior Seth Einterz narrowly missed a repeat trip to the nationals with a 13th place finish Saturday (26:16.10). Einterz was the Little Giants' lone representative at the 2008 DIII National Championship race.

Wabash finished 12th as a team. Senior Micah Milliman posted an 83rd-place finish (27:36.13) in his final collegiate meet. Fellow senior Grahm Johnson was close behind in 88th place (27:38.46). Justin Allen was 152nd (28:38.62), while Kenny Farris took 160th place (28:48.83). Donavan White competed for the Little Giants but was unable to complete the race after battling back all season long from a foot injury.

Calvin College won the regional competition for the 14th consecutive year, scoring a total of 73 points to take home this season's title. Heidelberg finished second and qualified as a team for the nationals in addition to Calvin. Manchester, Mount Union, and Case Western Reserve placed third through fifth in the team scoring and are under consideration to advance to the national meet, which will be hosted by Baldwin-Wallace in Berea, Ohio on November 21.
