Einterz To Join McCarthy at Nationals

Wabash will send two runners to the NCAA Division III Cross Country National Championship meet this weekend. Junior Seth Einterz will return to the meet after racing at nationals for the first time in 2008. He joins sophomore Kevin McCarthy, who had already earned a place at the 2009 championships with a sixth-place finish at the Great Lakes Regional.

Thirty-two teams are selected to compete at the nationals, along with the top-seven athletes from each region who are not a part of a qualifying team. McCarthy's sixth-place finish Saturday guaranteed him a place at the championship meet in Highland Hills, Ohio. Calvin and Heidelberg earned trips to the nationals as qualifying teams, but were joined by Manchester and Mount Union. That provided an opening for Einterz to join the mix.

"It was really great news for Seth and if you take a good look at, for the North Coast Athletic Conference," head coach Roger Busch said Tuesday. "With the addition of Manchester and Mount Union to the field, Seth became the sixth individual finisher among non-qualifying teams. It's a great opportunity."

The NCAC added a total of five competitors from the Great Lakes Regional to the field. Makrobo Salukombo from Denison, and Eric Line from Oberlin had already secured their spots in the field. The final announcement of the 56 individuals included Ohio Wesleyan's Evan Hitchcock as the seventh runner from the Great Lakes to be added to the national meet.

Baldwin-Wallace will serve as the host school for the championships. The men's race is slated to begin at noon at the Highland Hills Golf Course.
