Four Wabash soccer players received All-North Coast Athletic Conference Soccer Team honors this week. Femi Oluyedun and Mark Babcock were Second Team All-NCAC selections, while Dylan Andrew and Ryan Fier received Honorable Mention All-NCAC honors.
Babcock, a junior from Chesterton, Indiana, made the All-NCAC team for the third time in his career after garnering Second Team honors in 2008 and an Honorable Mention selection in 2007. He played in the defensive half for the Little Giants in all 19 games, finishing third on the team in total points with seven goals and one assist. He was a perfect 4-for-4 on penalty kicks and added game-winning goals against Wheaton and Hanover.
Oluyedun, a sophomore forward from Westfield, Indiana, led Wabash with nine goals and two assists. He was sixth in the NCAC in total points (20), fifth in total shots (53), and tied for fifth in total goals. Oluyedun posted game-winning goals against Wooster and Allegheny to keep the Little Giants in the hunt for a possible NCAC Tournament spot right up to the final day of the season.
Andrew, a sophomore midfielder from Columbus, Indiana, ranked 37th in the nation and third in the NCAC in assists per game with an average of 0.5. He dished out nine assists for the year – third-best among NCAC players – while scoring five goals to finish second on the Wabash team in total points with 19. He tied for seventh in total points in the NCAC and was sixth in points per game with an average of 1.06. Andrew scored game-winning goals against Alma and Hiram.
Fier received All-NCAC honors in his first season of collegiate soccer. The freshman midfielder from Columbus, Indiana started all 19 games for the Little Giants, scoring three goals with five assists for a total of 11 points. Three of his six shots on goal ended in points for the Wabash squad. He scored the first goal in the Little Giants' 5-0 win over Franklin for the first game-winning goal of his career.
Wabash finished the season with a record of 9-9-1, the most wins by a Little Giant soccer team since going 11-7-1 in 1998. The Little Giants were 4-5 in the NCAC, missing a chance to go to the conference tournament for the first time since joining the league in 1999 by one game. The four conference victories are the most by a Wabash squad since a 4-5 mark in 2004.
