Wabash College’s Student Activities Committee has teamed with The State History Play Co. to host the second Wabash Has Talent competition on Saturday.
The show begins at 8 p.m. in the main auditorium of the Fine Arts Building. Tickets are $5 and the show is open to the public. Doors open at 7:30 p.m.
Richard Merriman, owner of The State History Play Co., said the talent show gives students a chance to get away from studying.
“Finals week is a stressful week and students really turn their focus to their books,” he said. “Hopefully Saturday’s show will give the students a chance to get out and have a great time cheering on their fellow classmates.”
Greg Slisz, co-chair of the Senior Council Activities Committee, said they thought up the idea last year and had a great response.
“Last year when we held the show there were a lot of students who came out,” he said.
First place will pay $300, second place will pay $100, and third place will take home $50. There will be one set of prizes for vocal performances and one for instrumentals.
“That’s a lot of money for those who decided to participate in the show,” Merriman said. “We are expecting those performers friends to be out in full force cheering just as they were last year.”
Merriman said last year’s show was a blast with talent that ranged from ridiculous to unbelievable.
“This year we have a juggler, some bands, and a few singers,” Merriman said. “We also have a group of students who will be playing a violin duet which should be pretty interesting.”
Merriman said the show will mimic American Idol with three judges evaluating each performance.
The judges will be Merriman, his wife Gail, and Bryce LeBlanc, the new minister of music at
Rockpoint Baptist Church.
“Our goal is to have fun with this and make it as enjoyable as possible for all in attendance,” Merriman said. “We encourage the community to come out and see some of the talents that are present at Wabash.”
