Wabash College freshman Jake Strausbaugh has been named the WWSport.com Wrestler of the Week after winning the 141-pound weight class at the 2009 Little State Wrestling Tournament. Strausbaugh was named the Little State Outstanding Wrestler after going 4-0 for the weekend.
Strausbaugh, a rookie from Orrville, Ohio, entered the tournament seeded third overall at 141 pounds. He opened with a pin of Trine's Josh Patterson in the opening match, followed by an 18-6 major decision over Brian Lewis from Wisconsin-Whitewater.
Strausbaugh faced second-seeded Thomas Pompei from Trine --- the host school for the tournament --- in the semifinals. The Wabash freshman pinned Pompei at the 5:47 mark of their bout to advance to the finals. Strausbaugh met top-seeded Austin Bautista from Wisconsin-Whitewater in the championship bout, winning the match and the weight class title with a 7-6 decision over Bautista.
Strausbaugh is 15-4 with five pins and three major decisions for the season.
