Patchell, Smith Lead Little Giants To Conference Win at Hiram

Junior Colin Smith (Zionsville, IN/Zionsville) connected for his second game-winning goal of the week, scoring with just 10 seconds left in the match to give the Little Giants a 3-2 win over Hiram College. Hiram got onto the board first when sophomore forward Mike Coney scored on a feed from Bojan Klenjoski 20 minutes into the match. The score would remain 1-0 in Hiram’s favor until minutes into the second half when Wabash junior midfielder Morgan Patchell (Kalamazoo, MI/Loy Norrix) scored two goals in nine minutes to give Wabash a 2-1 lead. Hiram tied the game at 2-2 when Mihai Cucuringu headed in a rebound off a Jordan Rogers shot in the 76th minute. The match appeared to be headed for overtime until Smith's heroics gave the Little Giants the win. Sophomore goalkeeper Will McAdams (Carmel, IN/Carmel) made seven saves for the Little Giants. The Little Giants, who defeated Hanover College 2-1 on Smith's game-winner Tuesday, improve to 5-6 overall and pick up their first NCAC win (1-2) of the season. Wabash will play at Anderson University on Tuesday, October 7 at 3:30 p.m.
