Rhinesmith, Vaughn Take Top Spots in Dual Meet

Evan Rhinesmith picked up two individual victories, while Eric Vaughn added a third top finish for Wabash in Wednesday night's dual swimming and diving meet between the Little Giants and Washington University - St. Louis at the Class of 1950 Natatorium. The visiting Battling Bears came away with a 193-94 win over Wabash.

Rhinesmith posted a time of 1:00.00 even in the 100-yard breaststroke to finish in first place. He added a first place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke as well with a time of 2:14.88. Teammate Paul Beuscher took third in the 200 breaststroke by finishing in 2:21.80.

Vaughn was the winner of the 100-yard backstroke, touching the wall in 53.96. Adam Current took fourth place (59.54), while Steve Zajac was fifth (1:00.35). Vaughn was also second in the 100 butterfly (52.74). Current added a third-place finish (54.34) in the race, with Craig Vetor finishing in fourth place (54.87).

Vaughn, Rhinesmith, Buescher, and David Birrer combined to finish second in the meet-opening 200-yard medley relay. The quartet finished the race with a time of 1:1.36. Nick Rockefeller, Robert Fozkos, Zajac, and Vetor were second in the 400-yard freestyle relay to close the meet, finishing in 3:19.73. Birrer, Rhinesmith, Vaughn, and Chris Kermin were third (3:24.11).

Diver Jake Schild added two second place finishes on the one- and three-meter boards. He scored a total of 161.41 to earn second in one-meter competition, while scoring 164.71 points for second in three-meter diving.

Logan Rice took second place in the 1650 free (17.27.19), while teammate Chad Woods was close behind in third place (17:31.77). Vetor took fifth place (18:14.56) in the event.

Logan Falley and Jake Wilkinson were third and fourth, respectively, in the 200-yard butterfly. Falley took third with a time of 2:07.95. Wilkinson was fourth after touching in 2:20.78. Pete Hewitt grabbed third place in the 200 backstroke (2:04.12) and fourth in the 400 individual medley (4:31.31). Rockefeller added a fifth place finish in the 200 back (2:08.00), while Rice finished fifth in the 400 IM (4:36.54). Alex Beck took third place in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 50.35.

Fozkos was fourth in the 500 freestyle (5:13.66), while Birrer grabbed fifth place (5:13.72). Birrer was also fifth in the 200 free (1:53.75), ans was Rockefeller in the 50 free (23.63).

Wabash returns to action Saturday afternoon in a double-dual meet against the University of Indianapolis and Hillsdale College at 1 p.m. at the Class of 1950 Natatorium. The team will honor seniors Fozkos, Hewitt, Rockefeller, Vetor, Zajac, and Elijah Sanders prior to the start of competition.
