Hammer earned the honor after recording five unassisted tackles and two assisted tackles in the Little Giants' 38-7 victory over Manchester in the opening game of the season for the two schools. Hammer also had two tackles for losses for 11 yards, a sack of four yards.
His biggest play of the game, however, came with 11:21 remaining in the ballgame and Wabash holding a 17-7 lead. The 6-0 senior recovered a Manchester fumble, returning it 64 yards for a touchdown.
"I've been playing football since the fourth grade," said Hammer. "In all that time, I've never scored a touchdown. I was just happy to be able to make the play."
Hammer is the son of Bill and Barb Hammer of Carmel, IN.
