Wabash Wins Final 2009-10 Dual Meet

Wabash competed in its final dual meet of the season Saturday, defeating Monmouth College 120-65 in a tune-up for next month’s North Coast Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championship Meet.

The Little Giants posted seven first-place finishes and swept the top-three places in five races.
“It was a good team win today,” head coach Steve Barnes said. “I think things are really shaping up well for some good results at the upcoming conference meet.”
Senior Craig Vetor scored two individual victories, winning the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 49.61. He added his second win in the 200 free with a time of 1:50.97. Fellow senior Robert Fozkos took second in the 100 free, touching the wall less than a second behind Vetor with a time of 49.99. Nick Rockefeller was third in the 100 free (51.02), while Matt Routh was fourth (51.11).
Alex Beck took second in the 200 free, finishing in 1:52.25 with William Cheng finishing third (1:55.18). Logan Falley was fourth (1:55.23).
Eric Vaughn won the 50-free by finishing in 22.93. Nick Rockefeller grabbed second place with a time of 22.97, while Routh was third (23.41) overall. Vaughn was also second in the 200 backstroke (2:04.82).

Adam Current (left) took first place in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:59.85, leading David Birrer (2:03.90) and Falley (2:06.75) to the wall as the trio swept the top-three spots in the race. Chad Woods won the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:27.06. Elijah Sanders was second (10:53.61). Sanders came back to win the 400 individual medley (4:27.11), while Rhinesmith was second (4:30.83) and Peter Hewitt was third (4:31.54).
“ Routh, Fozkos, Rockefeller, and Hewitt all turned in very solid times,” Barnes added. “Current really came on strong with a good finish in his 200 fly and had a great race.”
The Little Giants are off until mid-February when they will compete at the annual NCAC Championships to be held February 11-13 at the C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton, Ohio.
