Wabash evened its overall record at 2-2 while earning its first two wins of the season in North Coast Athletic Conference play Saturday. The Little Giants opened the NCAC season with a 6-3 win over Ohio Wesleyan at the Collett Tennis Center in the morning before defeating Earlham 8-1 in the day's finale.
The Little Giants scored two points in doubles play against Ohio Wesleyan. Peter Gunderman and Ian Leonard (right) picked up an 8-3 victory in the first flight, while Elliott Dewey and Lewis Towne were 8-3 winners at third doubles.
Gunderman followed with a 7-5, 7-5 win at number two singles. Dewey went to three sets to score a 6-1, 0-6, 6-4 win in the fourth flight of singles play. Leonard won in straight sets (6-4, 6-3) at number five singles, while Towne closed out the match with a 6-0, 6-2 win number six singles.
Wabash swept the double competition against Earlham in the nightcap. Gunderman and Leonard were 8-6 victors at number one doubles. Ricky Ritter and Evan Bayless scored an 8-1 win at number two doubles. Dewey and Towne remained undefeated in doubles play with an 8-1 win in the third flight.
Gunderman rallied for a 5-7, 6-4, 10-3 win at number two singles for the Little Giants. Ritter scored a perfect 6-0, 6-0 win at number three singles. Dewey was a 6-0, 6-1 winner in the fourth singles flight. Leonard added a 6-1, 6-1 win at fifth singles, while Towne closed out the team scoring with a 6-0, 6-2 victory at number six singles.
The Little Giants return to action Saturday with two home matches at the Collett Tennis Center against Oberlin and Elmhurst.
