Waterman Receives NCAC Distance Award

Wabash freshman Jake Waterman has been named the North Coast Athletic Conference Men's Distance Runner of the Week for the period ending February 20, 2010.

Waterman received the award after winning the 800-meter run at Saturday's DePauw Indoor Track and Field Invitational with a time of 1:52.88. His time set a new meet record and easily earned him a provisional qualifying spot for the upcoming NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field National Championship Meet. Waterman's time was 8/100ths of a second away from earning an automatic berth at the championship event. HIs time is the third-fastest by any Division III runner this season and is the fastest by any freshman in the nation.

The Saturday victory came less than 24 hours after Waterman won the same race at Friday night's Ohio State University Tune-Up Race. He posted a winning time of 1:56.14.
