Tennis Splits Saturday Matches with IWU, Marian

Wabash saw its four-match winning streak ended Saturday morning in a 6-3 loss to Illinois Wesleyan University. The Little Giants responded by shutting out Marian University in the second Saturday match 9-0 to improve to 5-3 for the season.

Ian Leonard remained undefeated in singles play, improving to 8-0 with two victories. He posted a straight sets (6-3, 6-2) victory in the fifth flight against Illinois Wesleyan in the morning, followed by a super set 8-1 win at number four singles versus Marian in the evening match.

Lewis Towne was 2-0 for the weekend in singles play, as well. Towne defeated Marian's Joe Nelson 8-0 in number five singles action after defeating Steven Hayman from IWU 6-4, 6-4 at number six singles in the early match.

The doubles team of Elliot Dewey and Towne beat Charlie Sell and Hayman from IWU 8-2 to improve to 6-0 for the season.

Zach Lowry beat Brice Fairchild from Marian 6-4, 6-4 at number one singles. Pete Gunderman won in straight sets (6-4, 6-3) at number two singles. Dewey added a commanding 6-1, 6-2 win in the third flight of singles play, while Evan Bayless completed the singles sweep for Wabash with an 8-0 super set win over Matt Hostetler at number six singles.

Gunderman and Leonard defeated Andrew Voss and William Dixon 9-7 at number one doubles. Dewey and Bayless combined for an 8-5 win at number two doubles. Towne and Ricky Ritter picked up an 8-0 shutout for the Little Giants at number three doubles.
