Soccer Team Ties Kenyon 2-2 in NCAC Match

A penalty kick by Kenyon forty seconds after Wabash had taken a 2-1 lead proved to be the final goal in Saturday's soccer match as the Little Giants tie the Lords 2-2.

Wabash took a 1-0 lead early in the second half of play when sophomore Jeff Diebel (Ft. Wayne, IN/Homestead) scored his fifth goal of the year in the 48th minute. Kenyon answered midway through the second half on an unassisted goal by Duma Magagula to draw even at 1-1.

The Little Giants broke the tie for the second time at 74:13 when senior Cody Lawson (Carmel, IN/Carmel) headed a ball into the net after it served in front by junior Tom Reifenberg (Ft. Wayne, IN/Bishop Dwenger). But a penalty kick was awarded to the Lords at 74:58, leading to the game-tying goal by David Palchak.

Neither team could score in the final 15 minutes of regulation, sending the match into overtime. Kenyon managed three shots in the first extra period, but goalie Will McAdams (Carmel, IN/Carmel), who finished the match with 12 saves, turned the Lords' efforts away to keep the match tied. Wabash had the only shot attempt in the final overtime period, but could not get the ball past Kenyon goalie David Handy.

Wabash had 11 shots in the match with seven shots on goal. The Lords finished the day with 22 shots and 14 shots on goal.

The Little Giants are 6-7-1 overall, 1-3-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Wabash returns to Mud Hollow Field on Wednesday, October 22 for a 3 p.m. NCAC match against Wittenberg University.
