Fourteen All-Conference performances, including four individual champion efforts, led Wabash to a second place finish at the 2010 North Coast Athletic Conference Men's Indoor Track and Field Championship Meet at Denison University.
The finish was the best by a Wabash team since the Little Giants tied for second place with Allegheny in 2005.
Wes Chamblee started the run by the Little Giants last weekend with a victory in the indoor pentathlon. He added another first place finish in the 400-meter dash, winning the race with a time of 50.47. Jake Zielinski finished fifth in the 400 (51.24), while Spencer Sheridan took seventh place (51.94). Chamblee was also second in the high jump, clearing 1.91 meters (6 feet, 3-1/4 inches).
Jake Waterman was the individual champion in the 800-meter run, winning the race with a time of 1:54.12 to reach the NCAA DIII Indoor National Championship provisional qualifying time. Teammate Kevin McCarthy was third overall with a time of 1:55.34. McCarthy added a third place finish in the mile run with a provisional qualifying time of 4:15.18 while setting a new Wabash record in the event, as well.
Freshman Matt Knox took the pole vault title by clearing 4.41 meters (14 feet, 5-1/2 inches). Sophomore Sam Glowinski also earned All-NCAC honors, finishing in third place by clearing 4.11 meters (13 feet, 5-3/4 inches). Josh Sparks took fifth place (3.66 meters; 12 feet).
Emmanuel Aoud finished in second in the long jump with a mark of 6.77 meters (22 feet, 2-1/2 inches). Vann Hunt took fifth place in the long jump (6.46 meters; 21 feet, 2-1/2 inches). Aouad was also second in the 55-meter hurdles, posting an NCAA Division III Provisional Championship time of 7.66 in the process. John Haley took sixth place (8.12), while Patrick Posthauer finished eighth overall (8.33).
Justin Allen posted a seventh-place finish in the 3,000-meter run (8:52.15). Allen set a new school record in the 5,000-meter run on Friday night, finishing in sixth place with a time of 15:25.23. Austin Hodges added a seventh-place finish in the 55-meter dash (6.80). Zielinski was seventh in the 200-meter dash (23.19).
The Little Giants earned All-NCAC honors in all three relay races, including a second place finish in the 800-meter with a time of 1:31.17 by the quartet of Haley, Aouad, Zielinski, and Chamblee. Another second place finish came from Sheridan, Haley, Waterman, and Chamblee in the 1600-meter relay after finishing in 3:23.23. Wabash runners Micah Milliman, Chet Riddle, Colin Dunlap, and Donavan White combined to finish third in the distance medley relay with a time of 10:42.35.
Wabash finished with a total of 141 points, trailing only Ohio Wesleyan's total of 165 points. Allegheny took third place (83), followed by Oberlin in fourth place (79), Wittenberg was fifth (66.5 points), with Denison (44), Earlham (32), Wooster (30), and Kenyon (21.5) completing the team scoring.
