Baseball's Winning Streak Snapped at Austin

An extra-innings walk-off home run by Austin College ended the Wabash baseball team's two-game winning streak Friday afternoon. The Little Giants lost game one 4-3 to the Roos before falling 12-4 in the nightcap.

Austin centerfielder Sean Muder drilled the first pitch in the bottom of the eighth inning over the right-center field fence to give the Roos their ninth victory of the season.

Wabash tied the game at 2-2 the fourth inning when John Holm led off with his fifth home run of the season. The Little Giants took a 3-2 lead one batter later when freshman Montana Timmons hit his third homer of the year over the left field fence. Wabash had two late opportunities to take another lead after Austin tied the game in the fifth. The Little Giants left two runners on in the sixth after gaining a first-and-third situation with only one out, but could not bring the go-ahead run home.

Andrew Swart went the distance, scattering 11 hits over seven innings with four earned runs, three walks, and four strikeouts. Timmons went 3-for-4 in the game, while PJ Tyson collected two hits for Wabash. The Little Giants collected eight hits and stranded five baserunners.

Austin jumped out to an 8-0 lead in game two and never looked back, eventually taking a 12-1 advantage before Wabash plated three runs in the sixth inning.

Brian Lares led Wabash with two of the Little Giants' eight hits. Craig Austin suffered the loss, working 2-1/3 innings. Jeff Soller and Brittain Warner combined for 3-2/3 innings on the mound.

Wabash (3-7) completes its spring break trip with two seven-inning games at Bacone College in Oklahoma on Saturday before returning to Crawfordsville Sunday morning.
