Two three-run homers in the seventh inning lifted Wabash to a 9-8 victory in its first game Saturday afternoon at Bacone College in Muskogee, Oklahoma. The Little Giants were held to three hits in game two to complete the team's 12-game spring break trip to Alabama, Texas, and Oklahoma.
PJ Tyson drilled a three-run homer with two outs in the top of the seventh to help Wabash erase a 7-3 deficit. John Pennington opened the inning with a single, then moved to second on an error off a batted ball by Tanner Coggins. Sophomore John Holm cut the lead to one run when he blasted his sixth home run of the season over the right-centerfield fence. The rally continued when freshman Montana Timmons doubled immediately after Holm's shot. After two infield outs moved pinch-runner Nathan Schrader from second to third, junior David Seibel drew a four-pitch walk,
That brought Tyson to the plate, who launched his first home run of the year over the left field fence.
The Warriors answered with a run of their own on an RBI double by Logan Sansoni, but Luke Zinsmaster closed out the inning to pick up his first save of the season.
Eric Foust earned the win, pitching six innings while scattering nine hits while allowing five earned runs and seven total. He walked three and struck out seven.
Holm was one of four Little Giants with two hits. He finished the game with four RBI. Brian Lares, Chris Deig, and Timmons each had two hits, as well.
Lares had two of the Little Giants' three hits in game two. Bacone scored a run in the first, two in the second, and one more in the third on ten total hits to secure the split with Wabash. Pete Schmith took the loss with two walks and three strikeouts.
Wabash finished the week with a record of 4-8. The Little Giants begin the home portion of their season Tuesday afternoon with a single nine-inning contest against Franklin College at 4 p.m.
