Smith Named To D3hoops.com All-Region Team

Junior Wes Smith has been named to the D3hoops.com All-Great Lakes Region Team. The leading scorer for the Little Giants earned Third Team honors from the online site.

A First Team All-North Coast Athletic Conference selection for the second consecutive season, Smith, a 6-3 guard out of Lawrence North High School in Indianapolis, Indiana, averaged 18.2 points per game to lead both Wabash and the entire NCAC in scoring. His scoring average place him among the top-100 players in the nation. He was eighth in the conference and second on the team in rebounding, averaging 6.7 boards per contest. Smith became the Wabash all-time leader in steals in the early portion of the 2009-2010 season, finishing the year with an average of 1.9 steals per game to rank second in the NCAC. He added 31 blocked shots on the defensive end of the floor, averaging 1.2 per game for the second-best mark among conference players, as well. 

Smith led Wabash in scoring in 15 of 26 games. He scored a season-best 31 points in the Little Giants' win over Franklin, and tallied more than 20 points in 11 games. Smith finished the season with five double-doubles, including a 21-point, 10-rebound effort in the Little Giants' opening round victory over Denison in the 2010 NCAC Men's Basketball Tournament. 

Smith scored his 1,000th career point this season and currently ranks 11th on the Wabash all-time scoring list with 1,233 points. He is the all-time leader in steals with 174, and ranks seventh in blocked shots (79) and 13th in rebounds (507).

The D3hoops.com All-Region Team is selected from nominations submitted by sports information directors from around the country. A total of 676 players were nominated, with SIDs from each region voting for their top-six front court and top-four backcourt players.
