Slugfest Ends In 17-11 Wabash Loss

Wabash and Anderson pounded out 36 hits for 28 runs while stranding a total of 21 base runners Tuesday night, but it was a six-run third inning that provided the Ravens a 17-11 victory.

Anderson scored six times after a one-out error by the Little Giants. The Ravens opened the game with a four-run first and later added three runs in the sixth and four more in the seventh.
Wabash finished with 15 hits while the Ravens had 21. The Little Giants left 11 men on base. Anderson stranded 10 runners.
The Little Giants tied the game at 4-4 with two runs in the second and another pair in the third before Anderson jumped in front 10-4. Wabash cut the lead to five with runs in the fifth and sixth, then exploded for five runs in the eighth.
Dave Seibel continued his strong season at the plate, going 4-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored, including his fourth double of the season. Brian Lares also had three RBI in a 2-for-4 effort with a double and single. John Pennington and Joe Johnson each finished with two hits, as well. Nathan Schrader came off the bench to add a two-run single in the eighth inning.
Pete Schmith took the loss, allowing four earned runs in three innings of work to go with three walks and a strikeout. Chris Widup threw two solid innings in relief with five strikeouts, but was roughed up for seven runs in the final 1-1/3 innings. Luke Zinsmaster finished the game, holding the Ravens to two hits in 1-2/3 innings of work.
Wabash (7-11) returns to conference action this weekend with a key four-game North Coast Athletic Conference series against Wittenberg University at Mud Hollow Field, beginning with two games Saturday at noon.
