Coggins, Foust Named SAAC Players of the Week

Baseball players Tanner Coggins and Eric Foust have both been named the Wabash Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Player of the Week Award for the period ending March 21st, 2010.

Coggins (left), a junior first baseman and designated hitter, and Foust, a sophomore pitcher, played major roles in the Little Giants’ 3-1 series victory over North Coast Athletic Conference rival Ohio Wesleyan over the weekend. Coggins recorded seven hits, six RBI, and three home runs in four games against Battling Bishops. He hit two home runs in game three on Sunday afternoon, including the game-winner with two outs in the top of the seventh inning to give Wabash a 6-5 victory.

Foust  (below right) earned a complete game victory in the series finale Sunday afternoon. He struck out three batters in a row during the final inning to close out the contest two while not walking a single batter and allowing only one run in seven innings of work. Foust scattered nine hits in the 8-1 contest to earn his third victory of the season.

The SAAC Little Giant Player of the Week Award is a selective process in which the SAAC board, composed of representative athletes from each varsity sport, votes on players who have been nominated by their coaches, based upon the athlete’s performance during the past week. The Player of the Week Award is announced each week on the Wabash Sports Home page.
