Doubles Matches Concluded at Seward Tennis Tourney

Wabash players Elliot Dewey and Evan Bayless fell 8-4 in the finals of the second flight of doubles play Saturday evening at the 2010 Kerry Seward Tennis Tournament. The duo finished second in their flight, while teammate Lewis Towne advanced to the first place match at number six singles heading into Sunday's singles finals.

Dewey (left) and Bayless opened the day with an 8-5 win over Transylvania's Lee Gammon and Trevor Scott. An 8-6 win by the Wabash duo against Alex Gumz and Ben Paras from Rose-Hulman set up a finals meeting between Dewey and Bayless and Greg Janssen and Curtis Newman from Coe College. The Little Giants double team lost 8-4 in Saturday night's final round to take second place overall.

Towne started the day with a 6-1, 6-0 victory against Tyler Pewitt from Transylvania before adding a 6-1, 6-2 win in round two against Seth Hendrickson from Rose-Hulman. Towne will play Kyle Tucker from Coe College in Sunday's finals.

The Little Giant doubles team of Ricky Ritter and Zach Lowry took fourth place with an 8-5 win over Matt Dutrol and Mike King in the number-three doubles finals. Ritter and Lowry lost their opening match 8-4 before rallying for an 8-3 victory in the second round.

Finals matches will be conducted in all six singles flights Sunday morning and afternoon at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana.
