Another Record-Setting Saturday for Wabash Track

Freshman Jake Waterman was part of two meet records at Saturday' Cedarville Collegiate Open in Cedarville, Ohio. Waterman set new marks in the 800-meter run and was part of the winning 1600-meter relay to help Wabash finish fifth out of 15 teams at the meet.

Waterman reached the NCAA provisional national qualifying time by winning the 800 in 1:52.97, breaking the old meet record time of 1:53.64 set by Kendell Simon of the University of Findlay in 2007. Waterman finished nearly two seconds ahead of the rest of the field in the race. Later he joined Garett Bonk, John Haley, and Wes Chamblee to set a new meet mark in the 1600-meter relay race with a time of 3:19.48, eclipsing the old mark of 3:21.11 that had stood since 2004.

Chamblee reached the NCAA provisional time in 400 hurdles, winning the race with a time of 52.99. Teammate Emmanuel Aouad was second with a time of 55.02, while Billy Rosson took fourth by finishing in 56.14. Aouad was the third Little Giant to reach the provisional qualifying mark, taking third place overall in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.76.

Kevin McCarthy added a first place finish for Wabash in the 1,500-meter run, crossing the finish line first in 3:57.68. Sam Glowinski finished second in the pole vault, clearing 4.00 meters (13 feet, 1-1/2 inches) to add eight points to the Little Giants' team totals. Bonk scored a third-place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.68.

Wabash picked up a third-place finish in the 400-meter relay, with the quartet of Austin Hodges, Haley, Jake Zielinski, and Chamblee completing the race in 42.73. Colin Dunlap earned a top-five finish by taking fourth in the 10,000-meter run (33:44.54).

The Little Giants scored a total of 93 points, trailing team winner Tiffin with 159 points. Cedarville was second (113.50), followed by Ohio Wesleyan (109.50) and Heidelberg (102).
