Tankers Take Fourth at NCAC Relays

The Wabash swimming and diving team opened the 2003-04 season on Saturday with a fourth-place finish at the North Coast Athletic Conference Relays.Wabash finished sixth after the swimming events were concluded,but moved into fourth place in the final standings with the addition of the diving results.

Second-year diver Howard Bailey (JR/Moss Point,MS/Moss Point) helped Wabash to a fourth-place finish on the one-and three-meter boards.The Little Giants scored 185.25 points in the one-meter competition and 152.15 on the three-meter board.The team of Brandon Peacock (SR/Crawfordsville,IN/Crawfordsville),Brett Findley (SR/Bargersville,IN/Franklin Community),Michael Hewitt (FR/Greenwood,IN/Center Grove), and Matthew Perkins (SO/Indianapolis,IN/Brownsburg) grabbed a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:41.07.

"If we can begin to develop a stronger focus and game plan for each individual race, I believe our swimmers will be able to compete at the next level," said head coach Peter Casares. "Their practices have been great and now it is time to see that hard work pay off with good meet times. We have the ability, we just need the focus."

Wabash returns to the pool this weekend with two dual meets. The Little Giants will swim at Hope College on Friday, October 31 at 7 p.m. The Michigan tour concludes on Saturday, November 1 with a 2 p.m. meet at Kalamazoo College.
