Jake Waterman added another first place finish in the 800-meter run to his list of accomplishments this season, posting the winning time at the 2010 Indiana Intercollegiate Track and Field Meet. Waterman was one of eight Little Giant athletes to post top-eight finishes at the meet to help Wabash finish eighth out of 19 teams at the meet.
Waterman (left) posted the fastest time in the 800-meter preliminaries, finishing in 1:54.68. He went on to post his fastest outdoor time of the season in the finals, winning in 1:52.79 to once again reach the NCAA provisional qualifying mark.
Matt Knox added a second place finish in the pole vault, clearing 4.35 meters (14 feet, 3-1/4 inches) to add eight points to the Little Giants’ team total. Justin Allen took fifth place in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:25.70, his best mark in that race this season by nearly 15 seconds.
Jake Zielinski advanced to the finals of the 400-meter dash with a prelim time of 50.71, and then improved upon that time in the finals by running a 50.15 to take seventh place. John Haley cut a half-second off his preliminary time in the 200-meter dash. Haley ran a 22.47 to qualify for the finals, posting a time of 21.93 to take eighth place.
Haley, Zielinski, Waterman, and Garett Bonk combined to finish second in the 1600-meter relay with a time of 3:16.62. The foursome of Haley, Zielinski, Vann Hunt, and Austin Hodges finished sixth in the 400-meter relay.
Wabash scored a total of 41 points at the meet. The University of Indianapolis won the team competition with 160 points. Indiana Wesleyan, the host school, was second with 81.33 points. Indiana Tech was third (61), followed by Vincennes (60), Taylor (58), Saint Joseph’s (56) and Bethel (56). Marian University was ninth (36.6), with Anderson (30), Huntington (28), Goshen (23), St. Francis (18), Manchester (16), Earlham (14), Trine (13), Franklin (13), DePauw (8), and Hanover (7) rounding out the field.
