Tennis Team Ties Single Season Wins Mark

A 9-0 win over Illinois College Saturday afternoon game the Wabash tennis team its 15th win of the season, equalling the record-setting marks of the 1993 and 1995 teams.

Head coach George Davis' 1993 team posted a 15-6 overall record, then tied the 15-win mark with a 15-8 record two years later.

Wabash picked up its 15th victory of the year by opening with three wins in doubles play. Elliot Dewey and Evan Bayless combined for an 8-5 win in the first flight. Ricky Ritter and Peter Gunderman scored an 8-3 victory at number two doubles, while Ian Leonard and Lewis Towne earned an 8-4 victory at number three doubles.

Zach Lowry cruised to a perfect 6-0, 6-0 win at number one singles. Gunderman never lost a game in his 6-0, 6-0 victory at number two singles. Ritter was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at number three singles, securing the overall team victory for the Little Giants. Leonard picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win at number four singles. Towne took a 6-0, 6-1 win at number five singles, while Billy Evans completed the sweep with a 6-2, 6-1 win at number six singles.

Wabash will have a chance to set a new single season wins record when the Little Giants participate in the North Coast Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Tournament May 1-2 at Granville, Ohio.
