Busy Track and Field Weekend Leads to NCAC Award

Wabash track and field athletes were scattered from Iowa to Oberlin, Ohio over the weekend, competing in three different meets. Senior Emmanuel Aouad hit national qualifying marks in two of those competitions to earn the North Coast Athletic Conference Men's Sprinter/Hurdler of the Week Award.

Aouad was one of five members of the Wabash team to participate in the Drake Relays Friday. The senior competed in the 110-meter hurdles, where he posted a time of 14.85. Joining Aouad in Iowa was the 1600-meter relay team of Garett Bonk, John Haley, Jake Waterman, and Wes Chamblee. The foursome posted the fastest time of the year in the relay race, finishing in 3:16.01.

Aouad came back 24 hours later to compete at the Purdue Open in Lafayette. He finished third in the 110-meter hurdles (14.70) and in the 400-meter hurdles (53.93), reaching national qualifying marks in both races. Teammate Billy Rosson also competed in the 400-meter hurdles, taking sixth place with a time of 57.08. 

Micah Milliman took second in the 3000-meter steeplechase with his best effort of the season, finishing in 10:10.26. Evan Groninger took third in the javelin with his best toss of the year at 53.72 meters (176 feet, 3 inches). Groninger also ran in the 400 hurdles, finishing 13th (1:00.71). Chet Riddle finished seventh in the 400-meter dash (51.42), while Andre Adeymi was 13th (58.20). 

Matt Knox grabbed eighth place in the pole vault by clearing 4.60 meters (15 feet, 1 inch). Vann Hunt finished ninth in the triple jump (10.74 meters; 35 feet, 3 inches) and 10th in the long jump (5.82 meters; 19 feet, 1-1/4 inches). Donavan White took 10th in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:22.30.

Sophomore Sam Glowinski represented Wabash in the annual NCAC Combined Events Championship at Oberlin College Saturday and Sunday. Glowinski participated in the decathlon, competing in the 1500-meter run, the 100-meter dash, long jump, shot put, high jump, 400-meter dash, 110-meter hurdles, discus, pole vault, and javelin throw. Glowinski finished sixth overall, scoring a total of 3,878 points, while also earning three points for the Little Giants heading into this weekend's NCAC Outdoor Track and Field Championship Meet.
