McCarthy Breaks Wabash 1500-meter Record

Sophomore Kevin McCarthy may have taken eighth place in the 1500-meter run Friday night among a field of mostly NCAA Division I runners, but his time of 3:55.18 was more than quick enough to set a new Wabash College record.

McCarthy's time at the Billy Hayes Invitational hosted by Indiana University broke the old mark of 3:56.78 set by Kent Baker ’93 during the 1992 season.

The Little Giants sent a small contingent of athletes to compete at the Friday meet in an effort to prepare for the upcoming NCAA Division III Championship Meet.

Evan Groninger took third place in the javelin throw with his best effort of the season, posting a mark of 55.94 meters (183 feet, 6 inches). McCarthy (right) also competed in the 3000-meter steeplechase, finishing in 9:40.58. Emmanuel Aouad ran a time of 55.18 in the 400-meter hurdles.

The 1600-meter relay team of Jake Zielinski, John Haley, Garett Bonk, and Wes Chamblee finished in 3:21.28 to take third place overall.
