Six Pick Up All-NCAC Baseball Honors

Six Wabash players have been named to the 2010 All-North Coast Athletic Conference Baseball Team.

Sophomore John Holm and freshman Montana Timmons received First Team All-NCAC honors. Junior PJ Tyson and sophomore Chris Deig were named to the All-NCAC Second Team. Junior Tanner Coggins and sophomore Andrew Swart received Honorable Mention All-NCAC honors.

Holm (right) rewrote the Wabash single season record book as designated hitter, setting new marks in home runs with a conference-best 15. His 51 RBI also set a new Wabash record and placed him third among NCAC players. His 112 total bases were third-best in the conference and easily surpassed the old Wabash single season record of 98. Holm was also third in the conference in slugging percentage with a mark of .747. He was sixth in the NCAC in walks per game, averaging .45 free passes in 42 contests. He scored a total of 43 runs, seventh-best in the NCAC.

Timmons (left) led the Wabash team with a .385 batting average as a rookie outfielder. He was second among Little Giant players in slugging percentage (.549), third in home runs (4), and fifth in RBI (26). He finished second in Wabash history in total hits as a freshman, collecting 47 for the season to fall three shy of the record set by Brian Lares last year. Timmons played in 38 of Wabash’s 42 games, earning 36 starts in left field.

Tyson (right) earned Second Team honors for the second consecutive season. Batting .379 for season, he was the starting catcher for 32 of the Little Giants’ 42 games. Tyson’s .454 on-base percentage was second on the Wabash team, while his .495 slugging percentage placed him fifth among his teammates. He threw out 18-of-51 base stealers for the season from behind the plate.

Deig (left) was third on the team with a .368 batting average. His 53 total hits were fourth on the team, as were his 72 total bases. A starter in all 42 games in right field, Deig finished the season with a slugging percentage of .500 and an on-base percentage of .420, fifth-best among Wabash players. He hit four home runs for the year, tying him for fourth on the team.

Coggins (right) was an Honorable Mention selection at first base, playing the entire season without an error in 102 total chances. He collected 56 total hits, tying him for both the team lead this year and third for the Wabash single season record. He posted 33 RBI, five home runs, and 83 total bases — all second-best totals among Little Giant players. His .525 slugging percentage was third on the team this year.

Swart (left) earned his first All-NCAC selection after finishing a record of 4-5 as a starting pitcher for Wabash. He led the conference in shutouts, blanking opponents on two different occasions. His six complete games tied for the best among NCAC pitchers, and his 63-1/3 innings pitched were fourth-best in the league. Swart struck out a total of 52 batters, tying him for fifth on the NCAC season list. His 4.97 ERA was second-best among Wabash pitchers, while his four victories equaled the season-best for any Little Giant.
