Little Giant Tankers Dominate in Dual Meet Win at Transylvania

The Wabash swimming and diving team captured eight first-place finishes and finished 1-2 in four events on the way to a 139-84 victory in the pool over Transylvania University on Saturday.

The Little Giants opened the meet with a sweep of the top two places in the 400 medley relay. The team of Matt Perkins (SO/Indianapolis, IN/Brownsburg), Ben Hewitt (JR/Greenwood, IN/Center Grove), Brandon Peacock (Crawfordsville, IN/Crawfordsville), and Michael Hewitt (FR/Greenwood, IN/Center Grove) captured first place with a time of 3:52.09. Wabash also grabbed second place when Kyle Weaver (FR/Portland, IN/Jay County), Andrew McKone (FR/Glastonbury, CT/Glastonbury), Christopher Bly (SO/Indianapolis, IN/Lawrence North), and Zach Manker (SO/Grand Rapids, MI/Northview) touched in 4:06.59.

The Hewitt brothers took the top spots in the 400 individual medley when Ben finished first with a time of 4:30.57. Michael was second, finishing the race in 4:38.25. Michael captured another second place finish in the 200 butterfly (2:05.97), finishing behind teammate Brett Findley (SR/Bargersville, IN/Franklin Community), who took first with a time of 2:05.37.

Findley continued his unbeaten streak in the 1000-yard freestyle, capturing his fourth first-place finish in four dual meets. The senior touched in 10:26.13. Brad Williams (JR/Columbus, IN/Columbus North) was third (11:14.65). Findley also took first in the 500 freestyle (5:05.10).

Seniors Stephen Birrer (Indianapolis, IN/Brownsburg) and Peacock swept the top two spots in the 100 freestyle. Birrer was first (51.24), while Peacock finished just one second later (52.23). Junior Colin Fahey (Indianapolis, IN/Bishop Chatard) was first in the 200 breaststroke, finishing in 2:30.61.

Freshman diver Jovon Merritt (Opa Locka, FL/Miami Carol City Senior) captured his first victory of the season on the three-meter board (119.62). He also finished second on the one-meter board with 140.25 points.

Wabash returns to the pool on Friday, November 14 for a dual meet against Wittenberg University. The meet begins at 7 p.m. in the Class of 1950 Natatorium.
