The Wabash cross country team is ninth in the 2010 Great Lakes Regional preseason rankings, released on Tuesday by the US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
The Little Giants' Red Pack returns all but one runner from last year's team that placed 12th at the 2009 event. Junior Kevin McCarthy took sixth place in the individual standings, while senior Seth Einterz was 13th. Both advanced to compete at the NCAA National Championship meet.
Also returning for the 2010 season and figuring into the preseason rankings are Justin Allen (senior), Kenny Farris (junior), and Donavan White (junior).
Calvin College, the 2009 regional champion, was the top pick in the rankings. Mount Union was tabbed second, followed by Heidelberg, Manchester, and Oberlin. Case Western Reserve was sixth, while Ohio Wesleyan and Albion were seventh and eighth, respectively. Anderson rounded out the top-10 spots.
The Little Giants open the 2010 campaign on Saturday, August 28 with the annual Charlie Finch ’51 Memorial Alumni Meet before hosting the 49th Wabash Hokum Karem on September 4.
