Little Giant Tankers Take Friday Night Win over Wittenberg

The Wabash College swimming and diving team got the weekend off to a great start with a 135.5-107.5 win over Wittenberg University on Friday night.

The Little Giants took eight first-place finishes in the meet. The 200-yard medley relay team of Matthew Perkins (Indianapolis, IN/Brownsburg), Colin Fahey (Indianapolis, IN/Bishop Chatard), Michael Hewitt (Greenwood, IN/Center Grove), and Brad Williams (Columbus, IN/Columbus North) opened the night with a time of 1:42.15 to take the top spot.

Stephen Birrer (Indianapolis, IN/Brownsburg) captured first place in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:53.08. Hewitt was just behind in second place to give the Little Giants 13 points in the event, finishing the race in 1:53.08. Kyle Weaver (Portland, IN/Jay County) and Brandon Peacock (Crawfordsville, IN/Crawfordsville) went 1-2 in the next event, the 50-yard free. Weaver was first with a time of 22.82. Peacock touched second in 23.09.

Birrer gave Wabash split first-place points by tying for first place with a time of 50.91 in the 100-yard freestyle. Perkins took first in the 100 backstroke (57.15) before Brett Findley (Bargersville, IN/Franklin Community) and Williams swept the top two spots in the 500-yard freestyle. Findley finished first with a time of 5:00.77. Williams was second, finishing in 5:11.98.

The Little Giants took first and second in the final individual event, the 100-yard breaststroke. Ben Hewitt (Greenwood, IN/Center Grove) was first (1:02.75), just ahead of Fahey (1:03.22). Wabash finished the meet on a high note when Perkins, Weaver, Peacock, and Birrer took first place in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:30.63.

Wabash returns to the pool on Friday, November 21 with a double-dual meet in Bloomington, Illinois against Illinois Wesleyan University and Carthage.
